Women's Health Q & A

What is ThermiVa® vaginal treatment for women’s health?

ThermiVa is a radiofrequency device that uses heat energy to tighten lax vaginal tissue to restore a tighter appearance and feel. ThermiVa can:

  • Shrink and tighten the inner vaginal lips and labia majora
  • Stimulate collagen production
  • Tighten the vaginal canal
  • Reduce vaginal dryness
  • Improve orgasm

Dr. Heron is an expert in using ThermiVa. The therapy doesn’t require any anesthesia, downtime, or surgery.

How does ThermiVa technology work to improve vaginal tissue?

Dr. Heron uses a small, handheld device to deliver controlled radiofrequency energy from ThermiVa to the inner and outer vaginal areas.

The technology is specifically designed to treat the delicate skin and tissue of the vagina so you get maximal results and comfort. The energy stimulates collagen production, which increases skin firmness and tightness.

What are the advantages of ThermiVa treatments?

ThermiVa is an exceptional technology for revitalizing vaginal tissue. The in-office procedure is:

  • Nonsurgical, with no cutting, burning, or sutures
  • Delivered at your own comfort level, so you don’t experience pain
  • Noninvasive, with no downtime and no anesthesia

The device used to deliver the radio frequency energy is disposable and used just one time for your treatment, so it carries no risk of infection.

How many treatments will I need to restore vaginal health?

ThermiVa results in improved vaginal health after just one treatment, but you benefit most from three sessions spaced about a month apart. Each visit lasts 30 minutes.

You can go back to all of your daily activities following treatment with ThermiVa and even engage in sexual activity the same day.

Who is a good candidate for vaginal treatment with ThermiVa?

Dr. Heron reviews your medical history and symptoms and then determines if you’re a good candidate for ThermiVa treatments.

If you have vaginal complaints that are due to the aging process, childbirth, or menopause and other hormone changes, you’re probably a good candidate. ThermiVa is the perfect option for women who want to avoid surgery or aren’t able to have surgery due to health concerns.

Current Women's Wellness Exam and Papsmear (under 12 months), as well as a negative pregnancy test blood test 3 days before your service to ensure you aren't pregnant. No IUDs.  You must be off cycle so schedule 7 days after your menstrual cycle.

ThermiVa should not be used on patients who are pregnant, have a urinary tract infection or skin infection in or around the area of application. Expected procedure side effects may include mild pain in the procedure area, erythema and edema.
